Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, July 2007, 7/10.
Written by Jonathan Safran Foer. Published by Mariner Books.
Can you be too creative? I preferred the debut novel to this one, which felt slightly pseudo-intellectual and as though many of the literary ‘tricks’ actually were not adding very much. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable and surprisingly light read with a lovely ending that reinforced many of the themes nicely.

Saul Bellow - Collected Stories
Saul Bellow – Collected Stories, July 2007, 8/10.
Written by Saul Bellow. Published by Viking.
Mixed feelings. Many of the stories were excellent, with very vivid characters and plotlines that will stay with me for a long time, but equally many were rather forgettable. Very impressed with the ability to set a scene ion which very little happens but still keep the reader’s attention. Looking forward to reading more of his work.
