I realised you had read (and so intensely disliked) this novel only after posting my review of it. I agree that it’s an “easy” book, but that does not diminish its quality. It’s like Star Wars: not a french nouvelle vague movie, but still great.

This sounds interesting, and I think that the length is good – 400 or so pages is enough without scaring me away with endless details. I assume that you have been to the Hadrian exhibition at the British Museum?
